Audiovisual Heritage Day: the Audiovisual Documents of the National Archives of Latvia

To celebrate the UN World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, we are happy to announce that our Associate Partner, the National Archives of Latvia, has opened the digital repository of its audiovisual archive, with around 3000 cinematographic chronicles made in Latvia between 1910 and 1996 freely available online. The collections consists of film magazines, chronicles, documentaries with total duration of more than 450 hours

This amazing collection tells about a wide variety of political, social, and cultural events of the dramatic 20th century. The collection allows to understand historical changes that have affected Latvia during the 20th century, and at the same time to get a sense of the specific events, places, people, customs changing in Latvia throughout the last century, in the way that only audiovisual collections are able to.
